SUMMARY

We the Tribe are looking for a certified Physician to join our diverse and growing health services department. The physician will provide patients with high-quality treatment and diagnostic services. The healthcare provider will meet, access, diagnose and provide the patient with the utmost care that meets the state and national standards of care. The physician will be responsible for diagnosing, prescribing medications, healthy lifestyle habits, and alternative options. The provider will be exposed to alternative medical devices and work directly with a diverse medical team here at the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Health Center.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

A qualified candidate offers:

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice primary care medicine and diagnostic services in the    State of Michigan; and
  • Unrestricted full state license to prescribe appropriate medications and treatment of all patient health issues. (Current Drug Enforced Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS)); and
  • Diverse experience collaborating with other Specialists to provide positive care to the patient; and
  • Excellent communication skills; and
  • Board Certification or Board Qualified/Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine; and
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited Medical School; and
  • Successful completion of residency at an accredited healthcare institution;and
  • Enrollment as a provider in Medicare and Medicaid programs (or obtain within 90 days); and
  • Valid driver license throughout employment and be insurable under organizational policy.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Establish a compassionate and therapeutic clinical environment by providing individualized and culturally appropriate emotional, intellectual, psychological, and spiritual medical support to patients, family, and the community.
  2. Assess patient health by interviewing, performing physical examinations, and obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  3. Prescribe and manage treatment medications along with their risks.
  4. Determine conditions and health status by ordering or executing diagnostic tests such as X-rays, Electrocardiograms, CT and MRI scans and laboratory procedures with extensive interpretation of test results.
  5. Experience with Telemedicine devices and their accessories.
  6. Refer patients to medical specialists for consultative services as necessary.
  7. Coordinate care with local hospitals, reviewing pertinent records from hospitalists or other physicians and specialist associated with patient care.
  8. Promotes integrated holistic healthcare, referring patients to other programs such as Community Health, Dieticians, Family Services, and Behavioral Health.
  9. Document patient care thoroughly and accurately by charting patient in RPMS and any other required recordkeeping systems.
  10. Educate patients on wellness, diet, hygiene, methods for disease prevention, early detection, guiding patients to available resources.
  11. Study and remain up to date on target population health trend data.
  12. Review on a regular basis and provides follow-up for chronically ill, or long term cases that require on-going medical attention.
  13. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable tribal, federal, or state laws and procedures.
  14. Submit to the Departmental policies, procedures and objectives, along with quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  15. Record complete and legible medical records in a timely fashion.
  16. All other position related duties as assigned by supervisor.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
During the course of employment, the employee will consistently utilize and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, a heightened attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to independently as well as work cooperatively with other departments, and a commitment to confidentiality. Knowledge of and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of medical and administrative records adhering to the standards for health record-keeping under HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements.
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides collaborative and supervisory assistance with mid-level healthcare providers. Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sitting or standing for long periods of time, frequent walking, and occasional lifting, reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves manual dexterity to operate office equipment and while keyboarding. An employee will need normal, or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing and will routinely carry work related materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases, contaminated materials, bodily fluids, and radiation resulting in the need to wear protective equipment such as masks, eye protection, rubber gloves, and gowns.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a climate controlled medical office environment. The employee’s work schedule may frequently need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective.  Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend meetings or trainings.
