Instructor or Higher, Internal Medicine (Hospital Medicine)
TTUHSC El Paso – Transmountain and Tenet Healthcare have collaborated on the development of a new set of clinical and educational programs, designed to serve medical students, nursing students and resident physicians; to include Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Psychiatry. The facilities are designed to serve the healthcare needs of El Paso and Southern New Mexico, while also providing a world-class training site for up to 100 medical residents across a multi-year program.
Position Description
Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Required Qualifications
- M.D. / D.O.
- Successful completion of an ACGME accredited residency program in Internal Medicine
- Licensed or eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Texas
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience as a hospitalist
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine
- Experience as a Hospitalist in a community hospital setting
- Experience working with residents as part of the hospitalist team
- Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or Higher
Major/Essential Functions
- Provides consultations and clinical services in an inpatient setting
- Attends inpatient consultations in areas of specialty
- Participates in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills
- Collaborates with leadership group(s) to improve inpatient Quality of Care at teaching hospital
- Supervises residents and participates in teaching activities for medical students and/or residents
- Refers patients to medical specialist, social services or other professionals as appropriate
- Extensive and ongoing communications with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients currently in hospital
- Completes all clinical and professional records and documentation accurately and timely to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements
- Participates in committees and other administrative duties as assigned
- Conducts discharge planning and discharges patients
